Attractions Introduction:
West Point Lighthouse
Built in 1875 and standing approximately 21 meters tall, this is one of PEI’s tallest lighthouses. Now transformed into a unique inn and museum, visitors can climb to the top for breathtaking views of the Northumberland Strait’s azure waters and surrounding coastline, where history and nature intertwine.
Adjacent to the lighthouse, West Point Lighthouse Provincial Park boasts pristine beaches, dunes, and forest trails, making it ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and picnics. The Cedar Dunes Trail winds through coastal vegetation, guiding visitors to explore the area’s unique ecosystem.
Canadian Potato Museum
Located in O’Leary, the heart of PEI’s "Potato Country," this museum is a fascinating tribute to agricultural heritage. It showcases the history, cultivation techniques, and economic significance of potatoes in Canada through interactive exhibits, vintage farming tools, and displays of diverse potato varieties. Visitors can step back in time at the recreated historic potato farm and early processing equipment.
Summerside
As PEI’s second-largest city, Summerside charms visitors with its scenic waterfront, rich history, and vibrant festivals. It offers a perfect blend of tranquil harbor views and lively cultural experiences, making it an ideal base for exploring western PEI.
Wyatt House Museum
A designated provincial and national historic site, this Georgian-style home was built in 1867—the year of Canada’s Confederation. Originally owned by merchant Robert Alder Strong, it was later acquired by the Wyatt family, who adorned it with antique furnishings and global artifacts. The museum has hosted notable figures, including three Canadian prime ministers (Robert L. Borden, Arthur Meighen, and R.B. Bennett), preserving over a century of history as one of Eastern Canada’s most impressive heritage buildings.
